International Sports & Exercise Medicine Summit Focuses on Faster Recovery, Injury Prevention & Safe Return to Play

By Vinay Mishra Delhi: The Indian Society of Sports and Exercise Medicine (ISSEM), in collaboration with the Indian Federation of Sports Medicine (IFSM), successfully organized an international conference with the Sports Injury Centre as the academic partner, focusing on advancing patient-centred care in sports and exercise medicine.

The conference was graced by Prof. Kavita Sharma, Director, as the Chief Guest, and Tanvi Khanna, International Squash Athlete, as the Guest of Honour. The presence of an elite athlete underscored the critical role of evidence-based rehabilitation in an athlete’s journey towards recovery and peak performance.

The event commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Deepak Joshi, Director, Sports Injury Centre, who emphasized the paradigm shift towards evidence-based, patient-focused care aimed at faster recovery, reduced risk of re-injury, and a safer return to sports.

Principal Prof. Geetika Khanna and Medical Superintendent Dr. Charu Bamba inaugurated the pre-conference workshops and encouraged healthcare professionals to adopt evolving practices that directly enhance patient outcomes.

In his presidential address, Dr. Dobson, President, ISSEM, highlighted the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in delivering comprehensive care—ranging from injury prevention and rehabilitation to performance optimization.

Dr. Harleen Uppal, Associate Professor, Sports Injury Centre, played a pivotal role in the academic coordination of the conference.

A major highlight of the conference was the organization of five hands-on workshops on Musculoskeletal Ultrasound, Clinical Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics, Return to Sports, and Sideline Emergency Care. These sessions equipped clinicians with practical skills, contributing to:
