Celebrating Ability, Inclusion & Joy this Children’s Day at PMR Dept Safdarjung Hospital

By Vinay Mishra Delhi: The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR), Safdarjung Hospital, celebrated Children’s Day with enthusiasm and joy, bringing smiles to the faces of children with disabilities. The Occupational Therapy Unit along with the Medical Social Welfare Unit organized a series of engaging group activities including colouring sessions, fun games, and therapeutic exercises designed to promote creativity, social interaction, and motor skill development.

Around 35 children with special needs participated in the event, each taking part with excitement and energy. The celebration aimed not only to entertain the children but also to encourage inclusivity & highlight the role of therapy in supporting their overall growth and independence.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sandeep Bansal, Director, Safdarjung Hospital, said,

“Every child deserves to experience the joy of childhood, regardless of their physical or developmental challenges. Today’s celebration reminds us that with care, compassion, and therapeutic support, children with disabilities can achieve remarkable progress and lead fulfilling lives.”

Dr. Charu Bamba, Medical Superintendent, appreciated the efforts of the PMR team, stating,

“Such initiatives reflect the hospital’s commitment to inclusive care. Celebrations like these uplift the spirits of children and their families, while also reinforcing the importance of rehabilitation services in shaping confident and capable young lives.”

Dr. Ajay Gupta, Head of the Department (HOD), PMR, also shared his thoughts, stating, “The Department of PMR has always been committed to holistic rehabilitation. Occupational therapy plays a crucial role in helping children enhance their abilities and participate actively in everyday life. We are proud of our team’s dedication and the positive spirit shown by all the children today.”

The event concluded with the distribution of gifts and refreshments, making the day memorable for both the children and the staff. Neelam Varma, I/C OT, and the team expressed gratitude to the hospital administration for their support in organizing the celebration and reaffirmed their commitment to the empowerment & inclusion of children with disabilities.
