Questions Raised Over Delhi Police’s Negligence; LG Office Takes Cognizance of Advocate Ashutosh Pandey’s Notice

New Delhi: Once again, serious questions have arisen over the working style and negligence of the Delhi Police. The issue has come to light in connection with a legal notice filed by Advocate Ashutosh Pandey. The notice was sent under Section 140 of the Delhi Police Act on 23rd September 2025. However, instead of addressing the notice, the Delhi Police allegedly handled it with a delaying and negligent attitude.

The matter surfaced when an official letter dated 3rd October 2025 from the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat explicitly stated that the notice sent by the advocate had been received and forwarded to the Commissioner of Police, Delhi. The letter also mentioned that all records related to the case are available with the Delhi Police, and an appropriate response will be provided by them.

Ashok Kumar Yadav, the nodal officer of the LG Secretariat who signed the letter, clearly stated that the Secretariat does not have any documents pertaining to the matter and that the case falls entirely within the jurisdiction of the Delhi Police.

Advocate Ashutosh Pandey remarked that the entire episode clearly reflects the indifference and negligence of the Delhi Police. He stated that despite the notice being sent, the police neither responded on time nor treated the matter with the seriousness it deserved. Under the law, it is mandatory to respond to any legal notice within the stipulated period.

Legal experts opine that such negligence not only amounts to contempt of law but also violates the rights of citizens and lawyers. The Delhi Police’s silence and delaying tactics suggest either an attempt to suppress the matter or avoid taking responsibility.

Following this incident, questions are being raised about the fate of ordinary citizens’ complaints if notices from lawyers are not taken seriously. The Delhi Police has previously faced criticism over a lack of transparency and accountability, and this case further tarnishes its image.

Advocate Pandey has demanded strict intervention from the Lieutenant Governor and that the Delhi Police be held accountable. He emphasized that this is not merely a lawyer’s issue but concerns public trust in the entire justice system.

It will now be crucial to see how the Delhi Police responds to this notice and whether any concrete action is taken, or if the matter is once again allowed to fade into the files.
