By Chandan Sharma New Delhi: The drug trade in the national capital continues to erode the very roots of society. Despite continuous operations by the police and the Narcotics Department, several areas remain hotspots where drug suppliers operate openly. One of the most notorious among them is Ankur Sansi, who has been active for years in West Delhi’s Vikaspuri, Uttam Nagar, and Ranhola areas. Despite being caught multiple times, he continues to evade the clutches of the law.
According to available records and sources, three serious criminal cases have been registered against Ankur Sansi. Two of these are related to the Delhi Excise Act, while one case falls under the NDPS Act. An FIR numbered 621/2022 has been registered at Uttam Nagar police station under sections 8(C), 22, and 25 of the NDPS Act. In addition, cases related to liquor smuggling and drug supply were also registered against him in 2020 and 2021 at Ranhola and Uttam Nagar police stations. Hearings in these cases are still ongoing, and court dates have been postponed multiple times.
Local sources allege that Sansi has been actively supplying dangerous drugs such as morphine, mandrax, and injectable narcotics for the past several years. It is said that he often delivers the drugs on a scooter, sometimes carrying his young child along to avoid police suspicion. This tactic has helped him stay out of police reach for a long time. Residents allege that some police personnel and beat officers in Ranhola and Uttam Nagar have been complicit, allowing the network to operate unchecked.
Locals claim that the accused’s entire family, including women, is involved in the drug trade, supplying poisonous substances throughout the area. One resident said, *“We have complained multiple times, but the police only carry out formalities. Because of this negligence, our local children are falling into the trap of addiction.”*
Sources further reveal that each time Ankur Sansi is about to be arrested, his lawyer promptly files a bail plea in court and manages to secure his release using legal loopholes. At times, pressure or “settlements” reportedly lead to cases being brushed aside. As a result, Sansi has managed to stay out of jail despite facing multiple charges.
Social organizations in Vikaspuri and Ranhola have appealed to the Delhi Police Commissioner to take strict action against criminals like Sansi and dismantle their drug supply network. They argue that drug addiction has not only destroyed the future of the youth but also torn apart families. Although the NDPS Act provides for stringent punishment, the drug business will continue to thrive unless the police enforce the law with full seriousness.
Meanwhile, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Ranhola Police Station stated that teams are actively conducting raids to locate the accused. He assured the public that such notorious drug suppliers would soon be arrested and that strong measures are being taken to rid the area of this menace.
