The theme of the conference, “Healing Beyond Burns: Elevating Standards & Transforming Lives,” reflected its core objective of promoting a holistic approach to burn care. The theme underscored the need for specialists and medical professionals to look beyond mere clinical management and recognize that burn survivors endure not only physical injuries but also emotional and psychological trauma. It emphasized the responsibility of healthcare providers to move beyond wound healing and scar management, and to actively support rehabilitation, emotional recovery, and social reintegration—thereby truly transforming lives.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by Anupriya Patel, Hon’ble Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, as the Chief Guest, and Dr. Sunita Sharma, Director General of Health Services, New Delhi, as the Guest of Honour.

Faculty and delegates from Vardhman Mahavir Medical College (VMMC) & Safdarjung Hospital actively participated in the conference, reflecting the institution’s continued commitment to academic excellence, research, and quality burn care services.

In her welcome address, Dr. Sujata Sarabahi, President, emphasized the need for standardized and uniform treatment protocols, prevention strategies, and comprehensive rehabilitation in burn care. She also emphasized the importance of unity and collaborative efforts among burn care specialists to strengthen and advance the burn care sector across India.

A major highlight of the ceremony was the release of the Standard Guidelines for Burns Management, marking a significant achievement towards ensuring uniform and standardized burn care across the country. The newly released guidelines eliminate the existing gaps in burn care protocols and incorporate valuable inputs from a majority of NABI members, including the President. They were developed under the supervision of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare as part of the National Programme for Prevention and Management of Burn Injuries (NPPMT & BI scheme).

Dr. Smita Segú, Secretary, NABI, announced the academy awards recognizing excellence in burn care, and Dr. S. P. Bajaj, Patron, NABI, addressed the gathering, underscoring the importance of training, research, and collaboration.

The dignitaries appreciated the efforts of institutions including VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital for their contribution to patient care, teaching, and capacity building in burn management.

The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Deepak Nanda, Organizing Secretary, NABICON 2026, followed by the National Anthem.

A deeply inspiring ramp walk by burn and acid attack survivors emerged as the centre of attraction at the event. The powerful presentation symbolized resilience, confidence, courage and strength of human will.

The conference will continue over the next two days with scientific sessions, panel discussions, workshops, and academic deliberations with national and international faculty.
